Nike Celebrates Black History Month
Nike celebrates this year’s Black History Month with a release of a new collection of Air Force 1 Low FM (Future Movement) by You sneakers. Since 2005, Nike has launched a new Black History Month collection each year in an effort to honour Black heritage and celebrate their Black employees with the continued goal to inspire positive change and create awareness.
Headlined by a triplet of Nike Air Force 1s, each of the distinct colourways is designed by Black creators. In a statement, Nike said that each of the “materials include a translucent option that transforms to reveal an intricate pattern and wear-away leather panels revealing colours inspired by the flags of Caribbean and African countries.” To make it more personal, consumers can have the opportunity to laser-etch their own messages on the shoe’s dubrae.
This year, Nike has also announced a 2022 national and local grant for its $140 million USD Black Community Commitment, which sees the multinational company invest in organizations that highlight social justice, education innovation and economic opportunity for Black people. The recipients this year include Son of A Saint, All Star Code and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. Locally, Nike has invested $2.75 million USD across 44 organizations across the nation in cities such as New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Portland, Memphis, St. Louis and Boston.
The Nike Air Force 1 Low FM by You sneakers along with the accompanying Future Movement apparel collection are now available on Nike. The AF1s are retailing for $140 USD a pair.
