The Top 5 Series That Keep The City Awake
From the highly anticipated 'House of the Dragon' and the nostalgic 'Cobra Kai' to the divisive 'Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power' and the next best thing 'The Bear', we've rounded up the ten best shows streaming right now.
If there is a month that could be crowned as the king of series, then it is undoubtedly King October. With premieres succeeding each other, with new seasons that want to gain attention and play, with trivial spoilers that come to ignite the blood in the forums and tabloids. And all of this happens simultaneously and almost magically as soon as the calendar turns to the year's tenth month.
We had a busy summer. First, we said goodbye to the beloved Saul Goodman or otherwise, the spin-off character who managed to enter the eternity of the hit Netflix TV series and the TV universe. Then, after its beautiful belly, we finished an out-of-the-blue fantastic 4th season of "Stranger Things" and started to make an entire city move with headphones on, playing Running up that Hill in all versions. To get to today, let's count down until it is announced. Finally, there is a third season of "Ted Lasso", which does not stop sweeping the Emmy awards - and not unfairly - and gives Apple TV the momentum that "The Morning Show" lost after his horrible last season. The wonderful Jason Sudeikis scored on the complicated theme of psychotherapeutic entertainment and kept the bar firmly elevated by raising the platform's popularity along with Ben Stiller's equally Emmy-winning and magical "Severance".
And after the quick catch-up, let's see what's going on as we speak. What series makes us bake and re-bake popcorn and stare in front of the small screen that managed to become significant.
«House of Dragon»
After the significant outcry of the big end of "Game of Thrones", the fans decided not to see anything again that could remind them of this "fiasco" of the last episode, which did not reward them for their loyalty and support all these years. The "Shame" of this portion of viewers was tremendous, and they "walked" almost all the forums and fun pages. HBO didn't take long to turn the tables on this "fanatic" boycott. In particular, he didn't just change them but managed from the very first episode of "House of Dragon" to win back even the last sworn "never watching GoT again" fan.
"House of Dragon" is also a product of the books of the charismatic George R.R. Martin. It's just that we're now 200 years before the epic demise of Game of Thrones. At the centre are the Targaryen dynasty and everything that led them to the civil war that brought about the split. Without any spoilers, the show that is currently on the top streaming shows can be watched even by someone who, for some imaginary reason of their own, managed to escape the hype of 'Game of Thrones' and not watch it as we speak for a prequel to the series. Of course, if this happens and you press play, it is more than sure that a) you will also see GoT and b) you will read George R.R. Martin.
«Rick & Morty»: Solid value
The sitcom that has managed to become the animation next door in the sense that at least one member of the family will watch it consistently releases new episodes every week, and that practically means two things:
First, Netflix every Monday brings the series icon to the "Popular" list with the "New Episodes" ribbon around it. Second, it has become the office's best talk of the day. A conversation starts with a "Did you watch a new episode of Rick and Morty yesterday" and continues with at least a 45-minute conversation, also known as a Netflix break.
Το πέταγμα του γερανού του «Cobra Kai»
"Karate Kid" was and will be one of the most vital links to our childhood. Regardless of the age group we set ourselves in. 'Cobra Kai' started five seasons ago on Youtube to take us 34 years later when the heroes grow up, become active and change (?). The series did so well that Netflix bought it to continue its crazy upward trajectory until today when it is gaining more and more fans.
«Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power»: Not our precious
We've been waiting about 100 years for it to come out. We supported it (still keep it for the gun price). But. The long-awaited series connected to the trilogy of "Lord of the Rings" has not managed to satisfy its viewers in the slightest. Even though it is one of the most expensive series ever (its cost reaches 1 billion dollars), at least in its first episodes, it has not managed to give that wow effect that HBO has been preparing us for for a long time. But, of course, despite the disappointment and the 6.9 on IMDB, the series continues to trend since Tolkien fans are many - too many - to let anything related to their favourite author go unnoticed.
«The Bear» is here to stay
Disney+ came to Greece with options that will make us happy with the fact, and at the moment, we are not referring to "Obi One Kenobi" the Skywalker saga that "Star Wars" fans press play with their eyes closed (then, the open). Instead, the brand new "The Bear" comes to put us in the fine dining kitchen and leave us to watch actual anxiety developments that we never expected would interest us. Yet. From the first episode, 'The Bear' shows its potential and makes us especially happy about it.
And the premieres continue. The production companies do not have time to release new episodes to "feed" a clearly demanding television audience that swallows only the creative and inventive delicacies that will be offered to them. So are we ready for the season that this year's King October will bring? Only the platforms know.
