The Weekly Collection #10
What's happening in town? What will happen in restaurants, bars, theatre & music scenes that you want to be there?
March is leaving us, taking winter and fatigue with him. But, behind it leaves buds that finally burst and bring out the colour. Pink, purple, yellow, green, orange. Spring is here, and this year has a different sweetness of freedom and inspiration. Festivals start to fill our weekends while events compete with each other to "clog" even the most challenging weekday. Yes, Monday, I'm talking about you. Yet, amid it all, Easter is just a few breaths away to give us a break we all need. Holidays and moments of relaxation with family and friends make the scene even more harmonious. Even more passable. Even more beloved.
As always, in this Weekly Collection, we tried, searched, admired, envied and identified the most substantial spots for food, drink, going out, and entertainment so that you can welcome the most carefree and playful month of the year in the best mood. Shall we see them?
We were the first to try the new catalogue of the Cycladic Cafe of the Museum of Cycladic Art
Where: Neophytou Douka 4, Athens
When: 08.00-00.00 and the bar Friday & Saturday is open until 02.00
Why: First of all, because in the atrium of the Museum of Cycladic Art, you can experience the European experience of visiting the cafe of an art space. The impressive white artwork on the ceiling, together with a series of green plants, welcome you to an area made to do your most relaxed networking, to seriously consider the case of a lunch break outside the office or to end your day with taste after from visiting the three different Rethinking digital exhibitions (running until 27/07 at the Museum).
What's in the catalogue I'm interested in? Well, the exciting thing about the new record of the cafe is that it is challenging not to find something that satisfies you. If you have an appetite for brunch, a strong suggestion is poached eggs with smoked salmon and hollandaise sauce on toasted milk bread, while avocado on toast is another popular choice for Museum patrons.
The lunch break gives you a choice between some fantastic salads like the one with lentils and wild rice or the one with chicken. For most gourmet lovers, try the salmon tartare with avocado, mango, micro-leaf salads and citrus dressing. If you want to try a hot dish, then the risotto "like stuffed" with raisins, pine nuts, and feta mousse is not to be missed, which is like eating homemade stuffed without vegetable wrap.
In any case don't, don't forget to ask about the dish of the day. If you're lucky, this will be a beef tenderloin with grilled vegetables like the one we tried.
Dessert; Of course, sweet! Spoiler Alert: The mango cheesecake sauce is all the money.
The unmissable city tour: Open House
Where: In selected buildings of historical and architectural interest in the city https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1Q11zlkH5z_7mW1GtbdNrnL39XgIehp0
When: April 1&2
Why: The 10th Open House comes once again to talk to us, explain and guide us to the essence and power of architecture as one of the most practical parts of a person's daily life. Public and private buildings of architectural interest and importance open their doors for only two days and invite us to visit them, browse them, photograph them, and understand their constitution. With the motto "Building Futures Together", the Open House team aspires this year to highlight bioclimatic architecture and the issues related to a sustainable future.
The most important; It's free, and it's for everyone.
3 shows you get to see:
"Kolokairos" by Antonis Tsiotsiopoulos directed by Giorgos Paloumpis
Where: At the Jenny Karezis Theatre
When: Monday and Tuesday until 11/04
Why: Stathis Stamoulakatos stars in a completely different role from the ones we are used to (and love) and is once again a revelation. Because thanks to Giorgos Paloumpis's darkie, from the very first minutes, we are in the atmosphere of the bouzouksidiko of Elefsina, which will occupy us for the next hour and a half. The humour of the show is that extra which, while it does not need to win applause, we are glad to become its partakers.

"Freedom in Bremen" by Rainer Werner Fassbinder directed by Nikos Mastorakis
Where: In the basement of the Karolos Koun Art Theatre
When: Wednesday-Sunday until 9/04
Why: Fassbinder's text melodically dances to the directorial orders of the great Nikos Mastorakis, trying to reach freedom. A freedom that no matter how many years pass, some more and others less, we still need to claim and prove that we deserve it. The Art Theater collaborates for the first time with the DIPETHE of Crete, and they present a show that is small in scope and extensive in discussion (drinks afterwards).

"The ones you didn't catch" written/directed by Danais Liodakis
Where: At PL.YFA (Koritsas 39, Votanikos)
When: Monday and Tuesday at 21.00 until 11/04
Why: Why a walk in the former PL?YFA Industrial Park is always a good idea, especially if you like the urban element. Because Phoivos Delivorias edited the original music of the show and why when you leave, you will naturally sing, "Those you didn't catch will be the ones who ring the bells". Danai Liodaki's feminist comedy tells the story of four girls who grew up, became women, didn't know if they wanted to be mothers and ended up being daughters. In a story with references to the pop culture that brought us up (those of 30+), the four protagonists undertake to take us on a journey through their account—a story of feminist fantasy.

April's most WoW Festival
Where: At SNFCC
When: April 1-3
Why: This is the first WOW Festival in Greece, held in collaboration with the WOW Foundation, based in the United Kingdom, the largest organization in the world dedicated to women, girls and non-binary people.
A little history: The WOW Foundation was founded in 2010 by Jude Kelly when the first WOW Festival occurred at the Southbank Center in London. WOW Foundation has organized festivals and events in over 30 cities on six continents, attracting 5 million people.
Speeches with guests from Greece and abroad, discussions, exhibitions, workshops, mentoring sessions, educational programs, and concerts are gathered at the SNFCC in a significant event whose primary concern is empowering women and femininity to face the obstacles and the inequalities they encounter every day! Multi-collective and cross-thematic, the festival focuses on the Greek reality today. At the same time, it also focuses on the common issues and challenges concerning the world.
What should I see? The Guerilla Girls Artist Talk is the anonymous artist-activists who use shocking titles, scandalous visuals and shocking statistics to highlight discrimination based on gender or origin and corruption in art, film, politics and pop culture.
Also, until April 20, you can browse their exhibition "The Art of Behaving Badly".
Among the ongoing ones is Dana Kyndrová's photography exhibition in collaboration with Athens Photo World and the Czech Center of Athens (April 1-May 31, Perimeter of Stavros Niarchos Park), where you can see a series of 48 photographs where they are depicted realistically and sometimes with humour and a mental wink, moments through which the role of women emerges, occasionally dominant and sometimes shadowy, but still necessary.
Unmissable is the concert of the award-winning British composer and saxophonist Nubya Garcia (Monday, April 3 at 21.00, Stavros Niarchos Hall), whose music is changing the landscape of British jazz - a traditionally male-dominated scene.
One last thing: Look up their speeches and topics. You will indeed find at least one that you would like to watch.
