6 sandy beaches near Athens + 4 more to be alone
Summer has arrived for good, and the sea is not only the most vital thing that nature generously offers. It is also the most relaxing thing you can do, from morning until late at night.
We will recommend to you not only six beaches in Attica that are entirely sandy but also four more to be on your own.
The best sandy beaches:
Galasia akti
With its fine sand and absolute friendly beach. It is located at the 37th kilometre of Athens-Souni, near Lagonisi and is the ideal choice for playing and swimming in its blue waters.
Mikro Kavouri
It is located a stone's throw from Athens and is an ideal choice if you are tired of long journeys. It has a sandy beach, sunbeds and umbrellas, and several food options.
Brexiza
It is located in Nea Makri. Almost 30 kilometres from Athens, it has sand, palm trees for natural shade and plenty of space, so you don't have to squeeze in with your neighbours. It is nothing like a beach next to Athens.
Agios Dimitrios
Thirty-five kilometres from Athens, going towards Keratea, you will find the beach of Agios Dimitrios. It is relatively small but sandy. There are umbrellas, but even if you can't find one, you can find plenty more spots with natural shade from the trees.
Agia Marina
To the southeast, near Koropi, there is the beach of Agia Marina. It is one of the most famous beaches in the area. It is sandy but not organized, which makes it quite charming.
Legrena
You cannot miss the beach of Legrena. Although it is the furthest on the list, it is also one of the most beautiful beaches that one can enjoy near Athens. Deep blue waters will excite you, and rich sand, in and out of the water.
Deserted beaches:
Porto Ennia
Although you wouldn't call it a hard-to-reach beach, Porto Ennia in Keratea is one of the few beaches that can be said to be more "deserted" and secret.
Vromopousi or Kalopigado
Somewhat far from Athens, to the east of Keratea, you will find Vromopousi or Kalopigado. You will find the best waters in Attica, along with fine sand in this destination.
Thymari
Thymari is in Anavyssos, after Palaia Fokaia. It is an "incognito beach", and you must be careful not to miss the alley that goes under the road and leads there. You will come across two coves, one with sand and one with pebbles.
Harakas
You set sail for Sounio, reach Lavrio and Keratea, and there, on the border, you will find the settlement of Harakas. A long beach awaits you, with its fine sand and seaweed, while it also has some sunbeds in one part of it.
